Smokin' Hot

This painting is pastel on Richeson's Premier Gator Board. The inspiration came from suiting up to go work my bees and seeing the smoke billowing out of the smoker caught my eye, so I took photos to use as reference photos for the painting. Using a grid and prospek, I sketched the final composition, blocked in the shapes with Creatacolor pastels. I used denatured alcohol to wash in the background colors and after letting it dry I began defining the shapes with the darkest dark's and working from there layering pastels to further define the shapes and finishing with final touches/highlights to complete the painting.
