This painting was painted 'en plein air' at the foothills of the beautiful quaint village of Simiane La Rotonde on one of my most memorable painting trip to France. Simiane-la-Rotonde, a medieval village, clinging to a small hill on a high plateau in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France has remained practically unchanged for centuries and in June and July, which was when this was painted, the surrounding fields explode in a profusion of lavender.
