‘Devasted’ is an allegorical painting that depicts my anguish over our planet’s human-caused climate crisis with recent and ongoing catastrophes: raging fires in California and Australia; pollution and poor air quality causing ill health around the world; ice caps melting at an alarming rate and, now, the Covid-19 pandemic. Extreme storm events have left previously safe farm fields and urban neighborhoods flooded in their wake. With the rise of oceans it is predicted, in the U.S. alone, eventually Miami, New Orleans, and parts of Manhattan are likely to disappear from maps. Tragically, if we’re not drowning in water we’re still drowning in trash.
