That Little Fir Below Hull's Falls

I work from a particular moment captured in sketches and photographs, refining pictures in my studio. My pictures are thus a combination of several "moments:" the light and composition that captured my eye in the field, the sustained drawing, and all that goes into translating that imagery into a painting worth looking at in the studio. I mostly work in oils, but have very recently started using pastels. Their immediacy and color intensity are invigorating. This picture is on on an old piece of Ingres laid beige stock.
