Lava and Lace

Soft pastel over gouache underpainting. This scene is from the north shore of Kauai. I was inspired by the late afternoon reflections in the water, the peaceful waves, and the way one soft wave kicked back against the lava rock in all directions, creating a perfect "lace" pattern, almost like a doily.
