Crescendo

In this scene, I love the quiet toward the horizon and the crashing wave close-in, along with the transparency of the water as it crescents and the big splash! My travels often take me to Peru's Pacific coastline, where waves just draw me in to paint them. I began by cropping for a double-width size, then lightly drew in the outline, added mostly Girault pastel for an underpainting with an alcohol wash, then proceeded with mainly Ludwig pastels. It was a joy to paint!
